Dance Department puts on winter production ‘Action!’

By Miryam Moutillet

Featuring music from the scores of the great major motion pictures, this year’s Winter Dance Concert — “Action!” — is designed to infuse the Yulman Theater stage with cinematic sensation.

Our cast of 20 students will take you on an imaginative journey filled with well-known soundtracks and movie characters. The dances and physical theater pieces will take you across genres, into famous thrillers, worlds of fantasy and sci-fi, romance and comedy.

Faculty choreographies are by Director of the Dance Department Miryanm Moutillet and instructor Marcus Rogers.

Student-created pieces by Olivia Cipriani ’17, Giorgia Comeau ’16, Lily Herout ’17, Marisa Lieberman ’15 and Fadeelah Ziyad-Islam ’15 emphasize the empowerment of self-expression.

Guest visual designer Patrick O’Rourke’s digital animations are inspired by ten movies, including “Forrest Gump,” “Pink Panther,” “Mission Impossible” and “The Fifth Element.”

Our dynamic lighting design was achieved by our very own Robert Bovard, while Brittney Belz’s costume design continued bringing the film scores of Hollywood to life.

Guest composer Andy Iorio also brings his expertise as a film scoring graduate of Berklee College of Music.

The concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, March 4-7, at the Yulman Theater. Additionally, there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, March 7.

Tickets are now on sale at the Yulman Theater Box Office. The cost is $7 with a Union ID and $10 for the general public. The box office is open Monday through Friday, 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. For more information, call 518-388-6545.
