The Union Men’s Basketball team hosted two important Liberty League contests at Viniar Athletic Center last weekend against Skidmore College and RPI as the Dutchmen looked to end a several-game slump.

William Hython ’16 had his fifth straight double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) on Friday night, but it was, unfortunately, not enough to lead Union to victory, as the team lost to rival Skidmore College by a score of 82-63. Guard Deshon Burgess ’17 also had a strong performance for the Dutchmen, finishing with 17 points.

Union hosted RPI the following afternoon and came out with an 86-75 victory. Behind an impressive 24-point performance from guard Kevin Weckworth ’17, the Dutchmen snapped a five-game losing streak and improved their record to 9-9 and 3-6 in the Liberty League.

Weckworth was 7-10 from the floor including 5-6 from the three-point range. William Hython had yet another strong performance as he finished the game with 18 points and 14 rebounds to record his sixth straight double-double of the season. Guard Terell Winney ’15 added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.

As a team, Union shot 53.6 percent (30-56) and 50 percent (8-16) from the three-point range.

The Dutchmen’s next three games will be on the road against Bard College on Jan. 30, Vassar College on Jan. 31 and Hobart College on Feb. 3.
