At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, in the Henle Dance Pavilion, various students and student groups will host the second annual UDance Showcase.
For this event, a variety of dance troupes and soloists from the dance community will come together to perform their pieces of choreography and bring excitement and life to the end-of-the-term grind.
This showcase aims to provide Union dancers with another performance opportunity before the Winter Dance Concert, the Steinmetz Symposium Dance Concert and An Intimate Afternoon with Dancers.
The troupes performing include Hip-Hop Club, UBreak, Bhangra, Terra Dance, Step Team, Ballroom Club and Dance Team.
Soloists that will be featured include Mary Suttie ’15, Emily Su ’17 and Nahian Jahangir ’15.
Almost every piece being performed was choreographed by students.
Through this performance, the Union dance community will be able to showcase all the dance talent on campus.
The UDance Showcase will truly demonstrate the abundance of technical abilities and creative visions present at Union.
For all dancers, performing in shows is a way of communicating and displaying their art form. Because of this, there can never be enough opportunities to show off the hard work that is invested in these creations.
This event would not be possible without the support and sponsorship from the college’s Department of Theater and Dance.
Giorgia Comeau ’16 organized this event. She is a mechanical engineering major and a dance minor. For her, performing is the “chance to display her creations. There is no greater feeling than after you perform work that you have completely invested your heart and soul in.
“Athletes have multiple games or meets to show off their talent, but dance and theater are different — you usually only have once chance or, if you’re lucky, a few.”
