Burns exhibit breaks down barriers with art

By Sam Bertschmann

Through Nov. 22, the Burns Arts Atrium in the Visual Arts building will feature Latin American art that focuses on the experiences of migrants all over the globe.

Entitled “Reality of Placement,” the exhibit displays work by artists who, through painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, installation, printmaking and mixed media, aim to break down the barriers between people with varying cultural backgrounds in order  to address the persisting differences that exist between them.

Artists featured in this exhibit include Alain Gutierrez, Carlos Barberena and Anthony Montes.

The opening reception took place on Oct. 3 with a panel discussion, including featured artists as well as Visual Arts Professor Lorraine Cox.

The exhibit is brought to Union in conjunction with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Campus Diversity and Inclusion.
