Union Engineering Professor Ashraf Ghaly was awarded the Byron A. Nichols Endowed Fellowship for Faculty Development on April 2. The prize is awarded to an Union faculty member in order to develop “programs and skills that enhance intellectual, social and personal interactions with students.” This is the third award of the Fellowship. Ghali intends to use the Fellowship to develop a course entitled, “Environmental Forensics,” which will incorporate law, economics, environmental science and other departments. The Byron A. Nichols award is named in honor of Nichols, a professor of political science at Union who taught from 1968-2008. Previous winners were professor of economics Stephen J. Schmidt and professor of psychology Carol Weisse. Ghaly will develop the course over a three year period beginning in September.
