With its grand opening on April 5, Johnny’s is now another Italian delicacy created by the second-generation Mallozzi Group. The Mallozzi Group, a family-owned business that started almost 50 years ago as a bakery in Rotterdam, also owns the nearby Villa Italia Pasticceria and the famous Mallozzi Ballroom & Catering.
Located in downtown Schenectady in the Center City building on State Street, Johnny’s is just a couple of steps away from Proctor’s Theatre, providing people with the great opportunity to eat a delicious Italian dinner before a show. Delivering food with a southern-Italian theme, Johnny’s restaurant experienced instant success and served 550 meals during its first week
Following its opening week, Johnny’s hosted a private, 200-person VIP reception on April 11 to celebrate the premiere of The Place Beyond the Pines, a movie filmed locally in Schenectady. Stars of the film Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes all got a taste of Johnny’s delicious Italian cuisine.
According to John Mallozzi, “Johnny’s was created to bring together the three most important things in life: food, family and fun.” With a variety of homemade pastas and traditional favorites, ranging from appetizers like tomato bruschetta to dinner meals like chicken piccata, Johnny’s certainly comes through with providing great food.
Johnny’s has already been sampled by a handful of Union students, including Nicole Georgelas ‘13 who was extremely happy when she discovered that the restaurant offered gluten-free pasta. Joanna Chalifoux ‘16 said, “Johnny’s has a really nice atmosphere with a delicious, varied menu to choose from. It’s also great because it provides students with another good place to eat with your family!”
Open every day of the week, except for Sundays, Johnny’s offers lunch and dinner menus, as well as a wine list. So if you are searching for a great new and delectable place to bring your family, especially with graduation nearing, Johnny’s is definitely the spot!
