Best and worst of Grammy fashion

By Elana Katz

The 55th annual Grammy Awards aired this past Sunday, Feb. 10, on CBS.

In fashion history, the Grammys have continuously served as a platform for the best music artists of the year to celebrate their success in the industry with style. As usual, some stars  in attendance dressed to impress, while others simply missed the mark.

Here are my picks for best and worst dressed of the evening:

Best-Dressed: Rihanna

It is difficult to rock a red dress on the Red Carpet; however, Rihanna did just that in a custom red Azzedine Alaïa dress, and it wasn’t her first time. In 2010, she donned red at the awards ceremony, but this year marks her stand-out moment in this color. After years of pushing the “fashion envelope” with sequins, leather and other adornments, this dress is, by contrast, chic, feminine and sleek. She kept her accessories, hair and makeup simple, opting for red lips and nails to complement the overall ensemble.

Worst-Dressed: Ashanti

While many knocked Rihanna for her too-sheer dress, Ashanti’s takes the cake here. Her gown, a black floral piece made by Tony Ward Couture, was not only too see-through, but also too voluminous, adding unwanted fabric to her hips. Also, the floral embellishments made the gown feel dated.

On a separate note, the E! network has implemented a “mani-cam” to the red carpet, and it is perfect. Stars are asked to “walk” their nails down a mini-Red Carpet to show off nail art and hand jewelry.
