1. FLIP THROUGH YOUR CELL PHONE PICTURES.
When your digital camera isn’t on hand, we usually use the iPhone, Blackberry or other cell phone to document the outrageous, unusual and funny sights we see. Flipping through funny pictures will lighten your mood, maybe make you laugh and possibly put a big smile back on your face!
2. PUT ON A THROWBACK SONG!
I know that whenever a song comes on the radio that is an “oldie but goodie,” I usually get excited and start jamming to it right away– hope I’m not the only one! Make an old-school playlist of songs that remind you of high school homecomings or middle school dances and it will bring you back to a place of fun!
3. TEXT SOMEONE YOU LOVE.
It is always good to hear from people to know that they care about you. It is also great to talk to those that you care about. Text or call someone “just because.” Having a good conversation with someone great in your life will leave you feeling better.
4. MAKE A LIST.
Sometimes you are stressed out or in a bad mood because you just have so much to do and so little time to do it in. By creating an organized list, you will be able to put together a plan of when you are going to accomplish things and the time frame you will do it in. It will de-stress your mind and de-clutter your thoughts.
5. THROW YOURSELF INTO SOMETHING THAT TAKES CONCENTRATION.
To take your mind off your bad mood, go do your homework and get your mind off of it. If you don’t have any homework, take out your bad mood at practice by running faster, hitting harder or just being your best.
6. EAT YOUR FAVORITE MEAL.
Whether you have to cook it yourself in a Minerva, or just buy your favorite type of wrap at Reamer, treat yourself to something that tastes great to you. Your body will respond with joy that you just fed it something that it loves to taste!
7. GO TO THE GYM!
The gym isn’t just there to get into shape. Studies show that exercising releases endorphins that will help trick your mind into feeling better about yourself.
8. TAKE A 20 MINUTE SNOOZE.
Studies show that taking a nap for 15 to 30 minutes in the afternoon will rejuvenate you. Any longer than that and you may be groggy and not feel like getting up. After taking a 20 minute nap, you will be able to escape into dreamland and away from your problems. Not to mention, you will wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvinated!
9. CREATE A PROJECT FOR YOURSELF TO WORK ON.
Whether you decide to clean out a drawer or plan a birthday party, do something that will make you productive and, in the end, give you a sense of accomplishment. Accomplishing a task will make you feel more motivated and determined. It also has a similar effect as throwing yourself into something, as it will get your mind off of anything that’s bothering you.
10. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH FRIENDS.
If you are feeling down, don’t be ashamed or afraid to lean on your friends for advice or comfort. Good friends will be there to listen to you and help you through whatever you need. They will also be there to remind you of all the fun times you guys have had. Good friends will always be able to put a smile on your face.
