As parents and alumni come flooding onto Union’s campus for this upcoming weekend, they will receive a glimpse into what campus life at Union is like for current students. The variety of activities offered will provide every family with an array of.
In terms of Union athletics, the Dutchmen football team is on a three-game winning streak and is currently tied for first in the Liberty League. They will be squaring off against the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon, 1:30 pm at Frank Bailey Stadium.
Union’s ladies’ soccer team is playing William Smith College at College Park at 2 pm. The Dutchwomen have had a dominant season so far in posting a 12-1 record, and this game will most likely be another great performance.
On Friday, the Undergraduate Research Poster Session will showcase the projects of current student research, including subjects such as genetic modification, muscular development in grasshoppers and how it translates to human physical therapy, and the intersection of inspiration between painting and poetry. The extensive variety of research will exhibit the depth and breadth of discovery, learning, and curiosity at Union, as well as teach visitors facts they didn’t know before.
Also on Friday, alumni and parents are welcome to attend classes, take a historical tour of Union in honor of the bicentennial of Joseph-Jacques Rameé’s architectural designs for Union, or take a Gatekeeper-led tour of the college.
Lamont House will be dedicated on Saturday, and various student organizations will be holding receptions.
Entertainment events include a pumpkin carving competition, an a cappella concert featuring the Eliphalets, Garnet Minstrelles, and Dutch Pipers, and the Chemistry Club’s ice cream social on Friday.
At 8:30 pm on Saturday in Memorial Chapel, there will be a show called “Cirque Voila!”, a theatrical acrobatic show featuring two aerialists who do trapeeze high-wire acts, a stilt-walker, a hat contortionist, among other performers.
Also on Saturday, there will be a pre-football game tailgate picnic and hay rides.The annual “Gorilla Tactics” Homecoming party will be held at Old Chapel on Saturday from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The movie comedy Ted will be showing in Reamer Campus Center all weekend, with show times at 8 pm and 10 pm on Friday and Saturday night.
