In the beginning of the 2011-12 season, the Union Women’s Tennis team started off winning five of seven matches. Since then, the team has dropped the past five of six matches. During that span, they have lost to three of four Liberty League opponents.
Earlier in April, the Dutchwomen squared off against Bard in a Liberty League Match. Union prevailed against Bard six to three, giving them their first Liberty League victory of the season.
Dee Dee Gaudian ‘13, Liz Lehmann ‘12, Lauren Main ‘14 and Samantha Muratori ‘14 dominated the singles competition against Bard, all gaining wins for Union.
In the doubles competition, the Dutchwomen took two of three matches from the Raptors. The team of Brittany Gilbert ‘12 and Gaudian took eight of six sets to win the match against their Bard opponents. Lehmann and Main joined forces as well to take down Bard in the other doubles match. They dominated the Raptors, beating them eight to one.
The Dutchwomen then faced off against RIT a few days later. Unfortunately, the Dutchwomen did not share the same success as they did against Bard, losing 5-2. Gaudian secured the only singles match victory for Union for the day.
In the doubles matches, Union dropped two of three matches. The team of Main and Lehmann took the only victory in doubles play for the Dutchwomen. They prevailed over the Tigers in the match by winning 8-6.
Gaudian leads the team with eight match victories on the season in singles play prior to publication. She is followed by Main and Lehmann who each have seven wins on the season.
Main and Lehmann lead the team in doubles victories with eight on the season.
Prior to publication, this brings the Dutchwomen’s record to 6-7 with a Liberty League record of 1-3.
Union will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. this weekend to compete in the Liberty League Tournament. This is the last tournament for the Dutchwomen and they hope to outshine their Liberty League foes.
