Deborah A. Cianfarani, an administrative assistant in Financial Aid, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29. Cianfarani had battled cancer and was only 57 when she passed away.
As a beloved member of the campus community, Cianfrani doted upon students and staff with love and kindness.
Cianfrani began working at Union in 1993, and has since worked in Dining Services, Athletics and Financial Aid.
“With Deb’s passing, we all lost a great colleague and friend. Deb was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met,” said Vice President for Admissions Matt Malatesta.
“Deb will be missed by all,” said Senior Associate Dean of Admissions, Vernon Castillo. “She was a genuinely interested in people and was one of the first people to welcome me when I started at Union.”
Director of Admissions, Ann Fleming Brown, continued the high praise. “I can say that I have never known anyone as positive [as Deb]. She was gracious, kind and thoughtful to everyone she met. I admire her courage and I will miss her.”
Cianfarani leaves behind her loving husband of 40 years, Giovanni, as well as her six children and four grandchildren.
Family and friends surrounded Cianfarani at her funeral on Thursday, Feb. 2.
