By Letter to the Editor
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jason Benitez and I am Union’s new Director of Multicultural Affairs. I am excited at the opportunities and possibilities that Union has to offer and I am looking forward to working closely with any and all members of the Union community.
As the Director of Multicultural Affairs, I work closely with the Senior Director of Diversity and Affirmative Action, as well as other students, faculty, and staff to advance our institutional goal of “actively cultivating and appreciating diversity in all its forms.”
We do this by engaging Union’s community members in a number of innovative programs and initiatives which seek to develop cultural competency, religious fluency, and global awareness. We strive to forge an intellectual community and campus environment that supports every member in their academic, social, cultural, and spiritual growth.
As Director of Multicultural Affairs, I believe that key aspects to success, both here at Union and beyond, are the ability to embrace differences and a willingness to expose one’s self to the many dimensions of diversity.
My office can help to provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff in the following areas:
• Student Leadership Development
• Cross-Cultural Dialogue and Exchange
• Academic/Educational Workshops
• Cultural Enrichment Programs
• Bridge Building and Barrier Breaking Trainings
• Campus and Community Service
• Student/Peer Mentorship
• Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Presentations
Please consider this letter to be an open invitation to all members of the community who wish to learn more and who seek to get involved in all the exciting things happening at Union.
Lastly, the Office of Multicultural Affairs wishes to invite you to our Open House on Thursday, Jan. 12 from noon until 2:30 p.m. in the Reamer CC room 305.
Refreshments will be served and we also have a great give-away for the first 50 visitors.
