Writers in Whitby: Ceillie Keane

By Ceillie Keane

After passing the dilapidated medieval abbey and climbing down exactly 199 steps, Jess and I entered the center of Whitby, England.

Surrounded by the whimsical sea-side town with a distinct vacation feel, it was easier to believe that Whitby is known for its jet jewelry and fish and chips than the partial inspiration of Bram Stoker’s iconic gothic novel Dracula. The bright skies, clear blue waters, and little gift shops with salt water taffy and clotted cream fudge just did not match the dark and stormy night and blood-sucking vampire clichés.
