This year’s Art for Progress event will be sponsored by Golub House and the Sigma Phi Society and will take place on Friday, May 27 in Golub House from 4 to 6 p.m.
Art for Progress (AFP) is an annual event which seeks to increase the visibility of talented student artists and to raise awareness of the importance of arts in education. This event promotes art in many different forms: the visual arts, fashion, digital multimedia, music and news media. AFP provides a forum for Union students to display their individual artwork, whether they be art majors or simply draw, paint or sculpt as a hobby.
“Art for Progress is a great forum for underclassmen and non-art majors to display their work,” said Rachel Feldman ‘12, who has contributed work to both this year’s and last year’s fundraiser.
In addition to the gallery, there will be hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting available for guests who are over 21. Lastly, Gregory Bloom ‘11 and Steven McDermott ‘12 will be providing live music.
One of the most important components of this event is the donations that the Golub House Council will be accepting for two important charities: Engineers without Borders and Ewing’s sarcoma patient Kristen Shinebarger. Semi-formal attire is required, and information to RSVP to the event will be forthcoming in an e-mail from the Minerva Office.
“Golub Council is looking forward to the exhibition and promoting the work of Union’s talented artists again this year. We are also excited about fundraising for two special causes” said Ceillie Keane ‘13, Golub House Co-Chair.
