Just a short walk from Union’s campus, Jay Street is home to two very unique spots, Ambition Café and Chez Daisie. These establishments are fun for merely hanging out or for just running off campus to grab a great cup of coffee. Having been to both places, I can honestly say that both Ambition Café and Chez Daisie offer interesting dishes and most importantly, a great relaxing atmosphere.
In walking from Union Street to Jay Street, one will undoubtedly pass Ambition Café first on their travels down the brick street. Entering the establishment, I was overwhelmed with all the delicious scents of freshly made coffees and food being made. Immediately to the left sits a section to buy little gifts such as journals, as well as many colorful flavors of gelato, Italy’s version of ice cream. Along the right side of the café are booths in which people sit and chat over their meals. The last time I was there, I tried their mudslide coffee, which was absolutely delicious. Ambition also hosts a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Weekly live entertainment is also boasted on their website.
Chez Daisie is only a few steps across the way and down several storefronts from Ambition. Locally famous for their crêpes, this establishment is tiny, but full of atmosphere and fun. One can see his or her crêpe being made right in front of them. The staff is very friendly and easy to work with. Once, for a floor program I conducted as a Resident Advisor during my sophomore year, I enlisted their help in providing food for the event, which they emphatically did. Their delicious crêpes played a part in making my program an excellent success. The restaurant also has a variety of other foods, such as salads, and drinks.
Even in this winter weather, taking the walk down to Jay Street to visit Ambition Café and Chez Daisie are highly recommended and definitely worth it. On a cold day, nothing is better than a cup of coffee; a nice cup of coffee in general is invaluable to a college student. So if you are looking for a study break, or a change of scenery to do your homework, I would definitely recommend either of these two establishments.
