With the last remnants of a warm summer’s week hastily cast aside by Old Man Winter’s icy grasp, a rather ominous stage was set as host of the Liberty League Cross Country Championships, presented by Hobart & William Smith Colleges. As a perpetually stiff wind shrieked along the shoreline of Seneca Lake in scenic Geneva, New York, the indefatigable corps of Union harriers braved the brisk temperature and slate-gray cloud-cover for a painful tromp through a mud-laden course.
Close behind, senior captain Michelle Richter and fellow senior Courtney Foley closed out the top seven for the Dutchwomen, both recording commendable performances.
Also competing for the Dutchwomen were seniors Suzanne Estok and Angela McLelland, junior Kaileigh Moore, and freshman Callie Aldrich, running well despite the tough terrain. With a top five separated by only one minute and four underclassmen, things bode very well for races to come.
Union has this coming weekend off before returning to action at the NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships, hosted by SUNY Oneonta.
