Let them eat (cup)cakes!

By Tamara Stone

The cupcake craze has hit Schenectady and it’s up and running (literally)! Known fondly as “Dee Dee,” the baby pink Bettie’s Cupcakes truck is the only double-decker cupcake truck in the entire world.

This is no half-baked scheme. With its grand opening just last year, this unique cupcake contraption houses delicious delicacies on level one (along with plumbing and refrigerators), while level two encompasses the “skydeck,” with  seating for up to 27 people! Customers have the option of stepping into the mobile restaurant to order, or ordering from the side window and taking the cupcakes to go.

Ever-changing flavors range from key lime pie to cotton candy, creamsicle to banana split. They also have your basic chocolate and vanilla every day, along with their most popular flavors: red velvet and chocolate peanut butter cup (which I can personally attest is quite delicious).

The truck caters to all. Suffer from gluten allergies? Vegan perhaps? Bettie’s has cupcakes for both, as well as “puppie cuppies:” cupcakes for your favorite dog.

Craving sweets but uninspired to go to the Minervas and cook? Have your parents send you one of Bettie’s cupcake delivery packages. Choose from the cookie and milk or cupcakes and milk package and have it delivered right to your door. They make custom birthday cakes too!

While you have to check the “Betties Cupcakes” Twitter or Facebook page to find out the next time Dee-Dee stops in Schenectady, it’s worth the minute’s trouble (and let’s face it, who isn’t on Facebook at least once a day anyways?!) Mark your calendars for Nov. 4th, when the truck makes an appearance at Proctors for the “Cake Boss” show airing.

Sweet dreams are made of these cupcakes!
