Noemie Bechu ’17 led Union at the outdoor track and field meet at RPI last weekend, grabbing first-place finishes in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Bechu nearly swept the same events two weekends ago in the season-opening meet, but missed out on a victory in the 200-meter dash by 0.01 seconds. Bechu ran the exact same time in that race as she did at RPI, but 25.46 seconds was good enough this time to edge out Catherine Berry of Hamilton by 0.03 seconds. Along with Molly McDonald ’17, Anna Browne ’20 and Saragrace Magre ’19, Bechu also helped Union finish a close second in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays in the meet last weekend.

The 4×100 relay team finished just behind first-place RPI while the 4×400 relay team finished 0.42 seconds behind Oneonta. Maddie Samuell ’17 also earned a solid third-place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:53.75. For the men, Will Fisher ’19 won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.17, the same time that netted him a second-place finish in the event two weekends ago.

Arden Kellner ’19 came in sixth in the 800-meter run, and finished fourth in the 1500-meter run earlier in the meet with a time of 4.01.99. Fisher, Kellner, Colin Keally ‘20 and Ethan Craig ’20 grabbed a sixth place finish in the 4×400-meter relay. Ben Mountain ’17 was the other Dutchman to win an event, as his shot-put throw of 14.51 meters beat RPI’s George Gonatas’s effort by 0.10 meters.

Mountain also finished fifth in the hammer throw, his only other event at the meet. Additionally, Chris Marina ’18 was third in the discus throw at 40.28 meters. The men’s and women’s teams compete this weekend in the Liberty League Championships hosted by Vassar in Poughkeepsie.
