Track and field kicks off spring season


The men’s and women’s outdoor track teams kicked off their spring seasons in spectacular fashion on April 2; both teams competed in a meet against Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Hamilton and Mount St. Mary, hosted by Union.

The Dutchmen were led by Justin Zorn ’17 and Jesse Coul ’16, who finished first and second respectively in both the 800 – and 1500-meter run. As a result of his extraordinary effort, Zorn was named ECAC Track Performer of the Week.

Adam Forti ’17 placed fourth in the 800 meter-run while Arden Kellner ’19 added fifth places in both the 800 meter and 1500 meter-run.

A 4×400 meter-relay team composed of Claude-Luvier Bonnet ’18, Kegan Guinn ’19, Tim Woods ’18, and Logan Fine ’16 ran a 4:17.85, good for second place in the event.

The Dutchmen dominance continued in the field events, as Union added another 1-2 finish in both the long jump and triple jump. Bonnet finished first in both events, making jumps of 6.20 meters and 12.39 meters. Connor Hurley ’17 grabbed second in each contest, and proceeded to win the javelin toss with a throw of 36.17 meters.

Benjamin Mountain ’17 finished second in the shot put, throwing 12.52 meters.

On the women’s side, Noemie Bechu ’17 also earned Liberty League Track Performer of the Week, earning first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.49 seconds.

Bechu barely was followed closely by teammate Natalia Ciesielska ’17, who finished second in the race with a time of 28.13 seconds.

Bechu and Ciesielska coupled with Molly McDonald ’17 and Saragrace Magre ’17 to place first in the 4×100-meter relay, finishing in 52.60.

The Dutchwomen continued their strong day in the field events, as Magre finished first in the triple jump at 9.83 meters.

Both teams will look to ride the momentum into their next meet against RPI in the Upstate Classic on April 16, their final meet before the Liberty League Championships on April 23.
