The Union Men’s Ice Hockey team played on home ice for the last time during their regular season last weekend, taking on Quinnipiac and Princeton.

First, the Dutchmen beat Princeton in a Friday evening matchup with a final score of 2-1.

Goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos ’17 stopped 26 of the 27 shots that came his way. Eli Lichtenwald ’17 and Nick DeSimone ’18 scored goals for Union.

The next day, the Dutchmen held their own against Quinnipiac, the No. 1 ranked men’s hockey team in Division I.

The contest ended in a tie, with a final score of 3-3. J.C. Brassard ’18, Mike Vecchione ’17 and Lichtenwald each scored a goal for the Dutchmen.

Matt Wilkins ’16, Theo Di Pauli von Treuheim ’16, David Roy ’16, Sebastien Gingras ’16 and Nick Cruice ’16 were honored during a senior night celebration at Saturday’s matchup against Quinnipiac.

These five seniors are saying goodbye after leading the team to win two Cleary Cups in 2013 and 2014; two ECAC Championships, also in 2013 and 2014; and one NCAA National Championship in 2014.

As a whole, the team is hoping to continue its journey and excel throughout the playoff process.

Union is currently three points behind Clarkson for the chance to earn a home ECAC playoff game.

The Dutchmen’s regular season concludes this weekend, as the team travels to take on Cornell and Colgate.
