Indoor track and field competes in Liberty League Championship

Both the Union Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track teams competed in the Liberty League Championship on Feb. 13. Both teams placed fourth out of four competitors, but each team displayed strong individual performances.

On the men’s side, the most notable result was a third-place finish in the shotput from Benjamin Mountain ’17, who contributed six points to the final point total for the Dutchmen.

Jesse Coull ’16 added four more points with a fourth-place finish in the one-mile run, and fellow Dutchmen Mitchell Finitz ’16 placed sixth.

Additionally, two more fourth-place finishes came in the distance medley relay from Andrew Hilton ’17 and Will Fisher ’19, as well as in the 4×400-meter relay by the quartet of Adam Forti ’17, Logan Fine ’16, Alex Dolcimascolo ’17 and Nick Murdock ’18.

Lastly, Ryan Seager ’16 finished sixth in the 5000-meter run that helped the Dutchmen toward their 21 point total in the meet.

For the Dutchwomen, the most noteworthy performer was Noemie Bechu ’17, with second-place finishes in the 200-meter and the 400-meter, both of which made her Union’s top contributor, with 16 points.

Additionally, on the track Natalia Ciesielska ’17 placed fourth in the 60-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash to earn four more points for the team.

Claire Kowalczyk ’18 also added in a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash for the Dutchwomen.

Lastly, in the field events, Bonnie Deyo ’16 grabbed six points for the Dutchwomen with a fourth-place finish in the long jump and a fifth-place finish in the triple jump.

In total, the Dutchwomen received 37 points from the competition en route to their fourth-place finish.

Moving on from the Liberty League Championship, both the men’s and women’s teams look forward to competing in the New York State Championship at Ithaca College this weekend.
