The Union Men’s Basketball Team has been playing solidly this season, currently with an overall record of 12-10. The Dutchmen perform consistently both at home and while traveling, with a home record of 5-5 and an away record of 7-5.

Additionally, the team has been on a winning streak that began after playing Hobart on Jan. 26. Since then, they have managed to win against Hamilton, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Vassar and RPI.

Willie Hython ’16 scored his one-thousandth point and has become part of a small group of student-athletes at Union to achieve that milestone.

He scored the point while playing against St. Lawrence on Feb. 5, a game the Dutchmen went on to win 70-68.

Hython became the twentieth person to achieve this in Union’s basketball history and he’s also the second leading scorer of points on the team this season, with 314 points so far this year. Hython is also the second leading scorer in field goals, free throws, and steals. Additionally, he leads the team in rebounds, turnovers and personal fouls.

Several days after Hython’s achievement, Deshon Burgess ’17 also became a member of the 1000-point club. Burgess is also currently leading the team in points, field goals, three-point field goals, free throws, blocked shots and steals this season.

He has a total of 427 points with 143 field goals, 45 three-point field goals, 96 free throws, 15 blocked shots and 24 steals. He has been an essential asset to the team throughout the season.

Burgess scored his one-thousandth point in a game against Vassar that the team went on to win 74-48. He is now the twenty-first person to join the 1000-point club.

The Dutchmen will travel to take on Hobart tomorrow evening.
