Offseason spotlight on softball

Although the season is still weeks away, the Union Women’s Softball team started lifting and training week one of winter term.

Their official season will start on Feb. 1, 2016, and their first game will be on Mar. 30, 2016 against Utica. The captains for the upcoming season are Kelly Breslauer ’16, Molly O’Brien ’16, Joanna Chalifoux ’16 and Dani Hennel ’16.

I was able to speak with two of the captains who are looking forward to the upcoming season and are very optimistic regarding the team’s potential for success.

O’Brien said, “I am really looking forward to this season. We have mostly returning players and three new first-years. We are definitely going to do some good things this season.”

Last year, the Dutchwomen went 15-20 and are looking to beat that record this year. Breslauer shared, “We are motivated and ready to win.”

With the loss of big hitter Camille Corbin ’15 and two other student athletes who graduated last year, the girls are ready to step up their offensive game and fill that void.

Last year, the team made it to the finals of the Liberty League championship, and Breslauer believes that this new group has the ability to win the tournament.
