More than a game, lacrosse gives back

This year, the Union Men’s Lacrosse team plans not only plans taking the Liberty League by storm with their impressive play, but they also plan to show the Union campus community that they are more than just lacrosse players.

The Dutchmen are passionate and dedicated men who want to end relationship violence at Union and at all other college campuses. This year, the team will be joining lacrosse teams across the nation by participating in Yards 4 Yeardley.

This campaign was created after Yeardley Love, a women’s lacrosse player at the University of Virginia, was murdered by her boyfriend, a member of UVA’s Men’s Lacrosse Team, following an argument in 2010.

The Dutchmen are committed to running one million yards in one month to show their support and compassion towards this great cause.

Captain Thomas Stanton ’16 commented, “We are very excited about our upcoming season and are committed to ending relationship violence on campus.”

The Yards 4 Yeardley foundation now sends helpful information to over 400 colleges participating in the challenge. The lacrosse team looks forward involvement in Yards 4 Yeardley and to being an example for other teams and colleges.
