The Union Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field teams traveled to Utica last weekend for their first meets of the season.

Both teams are coming off of 2015 campaigns in which they both finished fourth in the Liberty League tournament, as well as twelfth and eleventh, respectively, in the New York State Championships. On Saturday, both teams saw a mix of new faces and returning veterans, all performing at a high level.

On the men’s side, first place finishes from Arden Kellner ’19, in the 800-meter dash, and Justin Zorn ’17, in the 3000-meter run, were the highlights of the day. However, the men’s successes did not stop there.

The Dutchmen had an additional eleven competitors with top ten finishes. This included a second place finish in the 3000-meter run by Jesse Coull ’16, coming in just seconds behind teammate Zorn.

The Dutchwomen also fared well. Claire Kowalczyk ’18 was the star of the day, placing second in the 800-meter dash.

Additionally, Noemie Bechu ’17 followed up her record-breaking sophomore campaign with a third place finish in the 200-meter.

The Dutchwomen rounded out the competition in Utica with five more top ten finishes. Teammates Allegra Dawes ’19 and Molly Casey ’19 made their debuts in the 500-meter dash, finishing tenth and eleventh, respectively.

Other top ten finishes came from Natalia Ciesielska ’17 in the 400-meter, Laura Schaffer ’17 in the 800-meter and Bonnie Deyo ’16 in the long jump and triple jump.
