The Union Women’s Field Hockey team’s season came to an end on Halloween when they took on SUNY Cortland.

The women lost the matchup by a score of 5-0.

However, the Dutchwomen certainly didn’t go out without a fight. Union goalie Laura Aptowitz ’17 made nine saves.

There was no scoring from either team in the first 20 minutes of action.

But then, towards the end of the first half, SUNY Cortland scored three times.

In the second half, SUNY Cortland scored another two goals, leading to a 5-0 loss for Union

The young team is saying goodbye to only one senior this season, Laura Pacheco ’16.

Pacheco, from Pennsylvania, has had a great field hockey career throughout her four years at Union. This year, she led the team with 18 total points. She had a team-high seven goals and came in third on the team with a total of four assists this season.

Union finished up their season with an overall record of 6-11-0.

The women were much more successful when they played on their home field, with a home record of 5-4-0 and an away record of 1-7-0.

The team is very young, which means it has a lot of room for growth and improvement.

The Dutchwomen are expected to improve next year as this year’s 10 first years improve and develop into leaders.
