Women’s golf competes in Liberty Leagues

The Union Women’s Golf Team wrapped up their season at the Liberty League Championships. The competition was held April 25 and 26 at the Clifton Springs Country Club and was hosted by William Smith.

The Dutchwomen finished the first day of competition in last place, behind other competing teams NYU, Mount Holyoke, Vassar, St. Lawrence, Wellesley and William Smith.

NYU’s Lina Kim led the action the first day, shooting a 77 on the par-71 course.

Union was led by Erica Adel ’18 and Kim Hynes ’16, who both shot 94s. The two Dutchwomen were tied for 26th place at the conclusion of the first day of play.

Emily Ferguson ’18 followed closely behind for the Dutchwomen, shooting a 98. Also competing for Union were Emily Erickson ’17 and Rebecca Babiak ’16.

On the second day of competition, Union again was in last place.

NYU ended up winning the overall championship and NYU’s Alyssa Poentis won the individual competition.

For Union, Ferguson performed exceptionally well on the second day of competition, knocking nine strokes off her score from the day before to finish with an 89.

Ferguson ended up finishing the tournament tied for 22nd place.

Adel and Hynes again performed identically as both shot 92s, two under their scores from the previous day. The two ended up tied in 19th-place.

Following the conclusion of their season, the team held their annual end-of-season banquet.

Hynes was honored as the team’s MVP for the third season in a row. Additionally, Christine Murphy ’15 was bestowed with the team’s Academic Achievement Award.
