College plans breakfast for alumni veterans

Union will host a Veteran’s Day breakfast on Tuesdy, Nov. 10, to honor alumni and community members who served in the armed forces. The price to attend is $10.

The event, which is being held in Nott Memorial at 8:30 a.m., has a program beginning at 9:15 a.m. Welcome remarks will be given by Frank “Tad” Knight, U.S. Air Force, Class of 1968.

The featured guest speaker will be Gregory Walters, U.S. Navy, Class of 1997.

Walters graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. While at Union, he was a member of crew and soccer teams.

Walters also spent two years, from 2005-2007, at Old Dominion University getting his master’s in engineering management.

He also served for a little more than 10 years as a nuclear submarine officer for the Navy, much like President Jimmy Carter, who took one course here at Union.

Walters is currently employed by Springfield College as the Director of Facilities and Campus Service.
