New campus-wide game encourages procrastination

This winter, a new online game has emerged at Union. The game is called GoCrossCampus and is open to all students. The goal of the game is to 'conquer' the Union Campus with armies.
GoCrossCampus is a game of strategy created by several Yale University students. One of the creators, Mattew O. Brimer, describes it as follows: "'Take a world domination game, multiply it by over thousands of players, add online social interactivity and set the whole thing on a map of your campus…You control your own legion of armies, coordinate the game plan, and play as a team with the rest of your branch to take over your campus and edge out your rival branches.'"
According to the press release, GoCrossCampus was tried out last year at several other schools, but due to the incredible popularity of the game, the servers could not handle all of the traffic. The kinks have been worked out, though, and the game is now fully functional.
Union students can thank Emma Labrot of Sorum House for bringing this great game to campus. Labrot says that "it's the game of Risk, but the board is our college campus. You pretty much fight for territories and battle until you own the entire campus. Everyone is divided into teams and your team is your Minerva. So far, we have 55 players signed up, which is awesome… Anyone who has a Union email address can play so there no reason not to!"
Signing up is easy, and the game should last for a few weeks. Every day there is another 'turn,' and the first three turns are, according to the website, "a Recruitment Period during which teams can only place their armies, but not move between territories (via attack or move). This time is spent strategizing on placement of armies and recruitment of schoolmates. Thereafter, full turns commence, in which teams can start attacking each other."
The website rules go on to explain that, "When the turn is over, the orders are processed. First, all armies with orders to move do so. Then armies attack, one at a time. Whenever an army attacks a territory with no remaining defenders, or a neutral territory, that territory is conquered by the attacking team, and next turn, will be controlled by that team. Turns progress until one team wins the entire board, or the game enters lightning rounds."
Freshman Nick Dunn says, "GoCrossampus seems like a great adaptation of Risk for a large community, but it needs to pick up some steam. There just aren't enough people playing yet for it to be really fun!"
