On Thursday, January 31, in the Reamer Campus Center Auditorium at 7 p.m., Chi Psi will sponsor a Leadership Speaker Series in conjunction with the Becker Career Center. The series is titled "Career Insights and Networking: Opportunities in the New Media Landscape."

This event will feature the CEO of Forbes.com, Jim Spanfeller, '79; the General Partner of Star Media Group, Peter Handy, '79; and the CEO of Genius Rocket and Venture Capitalist in Digital Communications, Mark Walsh, '76. They will speak to students about tips that can assist them upon approaching the job market.

The speakers' presentation will teach students how to make connections and network with experienced executives, as well as lend their insights on trends in communications and digital communities.

Spanfeller and Hardy are both Chi Psi alumni, while Mark Walsh was a Greek member of KA and currently serves as a Chi Psi trustee today.

According to John Kennedy, a member of the Union College class of 1978 who will be proctoring the event, "Chi Psi alumni created the 'Chi Psi Leadership Speaker Series' to build on the positive aspects of Greek life that Chi Psi seeks to reinforce as the fraternity re-builds on campus, where it was founded in 1841. In our meetings with President Ainlay and other administrators, they were supportive of Greek life and stated that if Greek life is to flourish at Union, it must be built within the overall vision for Union. The Chi Psi 'brand' is about leadership-in all areas of campus life-so this speaker series is a way to provide models of and opportunities for leadership."

The first speaker, Jim Spanfeller, the CEO of Forbes.com, a leading media internet company, oversees all aspects of the strategic and operational management within the corporation. He is accredited with being the first person to hold the position of Executive Vice President of electronic publishing at Forbes. He graduated from Union College with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
