An official endorsement: John Edwards

Issue date: 11/1/07 Section: World Views
John Edwards spends 400 dollars on making his hair look good. He's not black. He's also not a woman. He's currently third place in the polls, and when he smiles it's not difficult to see the bleach left over from his 2004 presidential campaign. He doesn't energize the room like Obama, who just speaks so well, and doesn't have the star power Hillary does (Clinton dynasty?).

Despite these superficialities clogging his campaign, John Edwards is by far the best Presidential candidate, Republican or Democrat.

Sorry Ron Paul: pulling America out of every international treaty and obligation isn't the most educated of ideas. Isolation didn't exactly work wonders for the Soviets.

And you Obama, who for some reason isn't black enough to win the black vote from…Hillary. I guess that feeble attempt to dance to Beyonce on the Ellen DeGeneres showed people that you are indeed whiter than Mrs. Clinton.

In most years the good-looking, male, white Democrat with a slight southern drawl would be a lock for the Presidential nomination. For whatever reason, this year's different. And Clinton is a smart woman, and Obama is an excellent speaker, and it's not like they aren't qualified in different ways. Irregardless, Edwards should be America's next president for the three reasons:

1. He is the most electable candidate. While Democrats are excited to vote either the racial minority or gender minority (at least in regards to politics) into office, polls show that moderate Republicans, and more conservative ones, are more likely to vote in the general election for a white one time senator from North Carolina. I'm also sick of voting on ideals like so many confused Florida Independents did in 2000, when Ralph Nader strangled the life out of Gore's Presidential campaign. I want some results. I want a Democrat that can get elected. I want the White House back.

2. He's a leader, honest, and bold. He fights for what he wants. Edwards has gone on record and apologized for voting in favor of the Iraq war, and is the only one of the top three Democrat candidates to publicly denounce Bush's recent request for more funds for the Iraq War (hey Ron Paul, you did too buddy I guess that counts for something).
