I hope all of you are enjoying Halloween week and I know some of you are looking forward to the last weekend of parties. It is hard for me to believe it is 9th week already. For me and my colleagues in Student Affairs, this has been a whirlwind of a term. Some of us have spent hours and hours on search committees looking for the best people to join us and others have spent days traveling to conferences and workshops to learn about new initiatives, new procedures and policies that affect our work, and what our colleagues on other campuses are doing. Some of us have done both.
Since last spring, we have conducted six successful searches in Student Affairs and are currently in the midst of the seventh search, which we hope will end successfully before the end of the term. We are looking forward to beginning the winter break with a full staff for the first time in a few years, including three new positions. For the students, this means more developmental programs and more quality time and attention from professionals who can focus on specific issues. For the community and our division, it means more fun colleagues, different ways of dealing with issues, and more ways of getting information out there about what we do and how we do it. For me it means being able to set some reachable goals, assess and review policies and procedures, and spend some quality time with my staff. I am most looking forward to actually getting out of my office and attending more programs and events around campus.
The entrance to the new Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life located on the fourth floor of Reamer; is through the Residential Life Office. The new Health Educator will have an office on the fourth floor as well as one in the Counseling Center. We will move our supplies into the former Student Support Services office, and I may actually get new furniture and have my office painted.
So while this was not really intended to be ALL about me, I think a little sounding off about what I have been up to could be in order. Here's wishing you good luck on all your final exams and term papers, happy and healthy holidays, and safe travels. I look forward to seeing you next term, and for those of you going away for a term: enjoy and be safe.
