On Tuesday, October 30, Tri Delta hosted its annual "Up 'til Dawn and Sincerely Yours" event to raise money to help support cancer treatment and research of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Tri Delta's chosen philanthropy is Children's Cancer Charities, and in November 1999, Tri Delta formed a partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. In September 2002, Tri Delta's Executive Board agreed to a four-year, million dollar commitment to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

According to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's literature, "St Jude Children's Research Hospital is the first institution established for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly cancer."

St. Jude is also the only pediatric cancer center that does not require families without insurance to pay for treatment.

Currently, there are approximately 4,700 patients in active status, and the hospital's daily operating cost is more than $1.2 million, which is mostly funded by public donations. It is therefore very important that people help spread awareness to support St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Tri Delta sister, Rebecca Dunlop, '09, said that, "'Up 'til Dawn' is a great opportunity to get together with friends to help out the children at St. Jude's. 'Up 'til Dawn' raises a good amount of money each year for a wonderful cause, and I hope we will be able to continue hosting the event in the future."

"Up 'til Dawn" is a student-led and student-run fundraising program hosted by various colleges and universities across the nation.

During the event, students stay "up 'til dawn," at an all night event to raise awareness about St. Jude patients and the mission of the hospital. Since the founding of "Up 'til Dawn" in 1998, students from more than 230 schools have joined in hosting "Up 'til Dawn" on their campuses and have raised more than $16 million for the patients of St. Jude.
