What a weekend it was for the Union women's soccer team! Facing off against the last of their Liberty League opponents, Union was able to get the 2 "W's" to ensure themselves the number 3 spot in the Liberty League tournament that will take place next weekend.

The team's first match was against Vassar, an underdog in the league that has been playing very well. Vassar was sure to show Union they were a team to contend with too, putting in the first goal of the game just six minutes into the first half. Sarah Strange got the goal off a header after receiving a cross from Nola Solomon. Vassar's quick goal, however, gave Union the motivation it needed to pick up the intensity.

The Dutchwomen had several chances before the team actually did put one away, with senior Stephanie Cannuli and junior Chelsea Hargis firing shots that both just missed. Finally, it was the dependable freshman Katie McLean who tied the game up for Union dribbling around the Vassar defenders to get an open shot in the middle of the field. Her shot reached the upper left-hand corner where the Vassar goalie had no chance of a save. The goal was Mclean's thirteenth of the season.

Just before the end of the half, the Dutchwomen got the game winner off a scramble in front of the net. Senior Caitlin Cuozzo ripped a shot that was bobbled by the Vassar goalie, but junior Megan Bordino was there to get the rebound and put the ball in. By a score of 2-1, Union got the victory and the Dutchwoman keeper Melissa McDonald recorded her thirteenth win of the season as well.

Sunday's game was a passionate one not only because Union was playing rival RPI, but also because it was Senior Day. Four seniors were honored at the game including midfielder Cannuli, forward Cuozzo, defender Bridget Duffy, and midfielder Cristin Tenety.

Cuozzo was sure to make her Senior Day count and got the first goal of the game to put the Dutchwomen in the lead. Her sister, Allie Cuozzo, helped her out, getting the assist off a cross and making the Cuozzo to Cuozzo connection.
