Last Sunday the Dutchwomen decided to make a goal for themselves: they wanted to go three and "o" for the week. Clearly, creating such a benchmark worked, seeing as how the girls downed Utica, Vassar, and RPI.

The Union College Field Hockey team started their week off strong by beating Utica College on Wednesday for the first time in five years. Utica has always proved to be a tough, non-league game.

The Utica Pioneers are extremely aggressive and one of the top teams in the Empire Eight. The first half appeared to be a defensive battle until junior Mallory Mason re-bounded her own shot for a goal with merely 24 seconds left in the first half. After scoring the first goal of the game, the Dutchwomen came into the second half with desire and intensity.

Union netted another goal in the second half when junior midfielder Anne Hanson dished off an amazing pass to Lizzy Moran for a swift dump past Utica goalie Amanda McDonnell. The final score of the game was 2-0, Union. This was junior goalie, Liz Stanford's second shutout of the season.

After Utica, Union went on to face back-to-back liberty league match-ups. On Friday the girls took on the Brewers of Vassar College. This game, however, did not get off to a great start. Just five minutes into the game, Vassar managed to net a goal off of a penalty corner. However, the Dutchwomen came back fifteen minutes later to equalize the game.

As the Dutchwomen entered the second half, they sought to find a player to step up and take control on the field. Leadership came when freshman Alexandra King stepped up from the back. King managed to bring the ball all the way up the field and launch a hard shot from outside the circle for a tipped in goal by freshman forward Tyler Willey. Willey's goal ended up being the game winner, with a 2-1 win for Union.

On Saturday the girls went on to face RPI, one of the biggest rivalries, and most anticipated games of the season. The game proved to be a thriller. The Dutchwomen managed to tally three goals within the first half of the game, each goal by a different individual. Goals came from freshman Tyler Wiley, sophomore Lizzy Moran, and freshman Caroline Tulp. The first half was great field hockey; the whole team was connecting and the girls looked hungry in front of the net. While, RPI managed to net a lone goal in the second half, the game ended 3-1, Union.

Liz Stanford was named the Defensive Performer of the Week. This marks the first honor of Stanford's career. During this 3-0 week, Stanford lead her team to two league wins, posted an eight-save 2-0 shutout, and tallied 15 saves overall. The Union College Field Hockey team is now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League.

The Dutchwomen played on Tuesday against New Paltz, and have Lasell College on Saturday.
