Sounding Off... From the Dean's Office

Issue date: 9/27/07 Section: Opinions
Thank you to the editors of the Concordy for inviting me to write on behalf of admissions and financial aid. I am serving as interim vice president for Admissions and Financial Aid this year.

First, allow me to introduce the new admissions and financial aid staff.

Stephanie Frantz is the new Assistant Director of Financial Aid. Previously she worked at Mildred Elley. Look for her in the financial aid office and in class. She hopes to enroll in literature courses in the winter.

Sarah Henderson, Assistant Dean of Admissions, is a graduate of SUNY Potsdam, where she majored in Anthropology and English Literature. Sarah interned at St. Lawrence University in their Center for International and Intercultural Studies and she was an exchange student in Norway. If her name changes in the middle of the year, forgive her. Her wedding to Nicholas Maneely is scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving. She will direct our international recruitment.

James Luciano, Assistant Dean of Admissions, has most recently worked in the admissions office at the Sage Colleges as he completed his graduate degree in counseling. Active in our professional associations, James served as a mentor to aspiring students at Camp College (hosted by Union in the summer). James will travel to meet prospects in the Capital District and New Jersey. He is already working with the Ambassadors.

Abbey Massoud-Tastor is a 2007 Union graduate so you may already know her. A French major and Spanish minor, she studied for a term in Rennes. She has convinced everyone she meets of her love of Union. Originally from New Hartford, NY, Abbey will travel to both Boston and central New York.

I am happy to announce some promotions, too. Vernon Castillo is now the Senior Associate Dean of Admissions. Geoff Bowman and Teran Tadal continue with new titles - Associate Deans of Admissions. Teran is also the Director of Multi-cultural Recruitment. Congratulations to all.
