Allow me to take a minute to speak about the Presidential candidate whom I have chosen to support for the upcoming election. Why am I doing so? Because I have space to fill and an interest in politics, as well as a desire to spread that interest. Now let me clarify, these are merely my views. Everyone is entitled to their own views and the free expression thereof. What is really important is not what or who you believe in, but that you in fact believe in something.
Having been too young to fully understand the politics of our country during the Clinton administration, I have known only the Bush administration in this country during my politically aware life. Perhaps this explains my fervent interest in politics; I see the potential this country holds and how we have failed to live up to it the last six years.
The damage that has been done to the middle and lower classes with regards to healthcare, education, and taxes is immense. The constitutional freedoms we "hold so dear" as a country have been disturbingly contracted to serve the Bush agenda. America's image throughout the world has been tarnished so badly that it is going to take significant work to improve it again, but I know it can be done. We have become a nation that is run by the few, for the few, rather than by the people for the people. The Bush administration is without argument a corrupt one, and they have left this country with a bad taste in its mouth, to say the least. I know this frustration, and I know that we can fix it.
Much as Senator Obama believes that America is still the world's last great hope, so do I believe that Senator Obama is America's next great hope. He speaks to all people, unifying those we have been told could not be unified and working to make real, effective, and extremely important changes in our nation. Having always been extremely interested in politics, I have followed Senator Obama and his work since I first saw his speech at the DNC in 2004. In my mind, it is a shame that this was the first I had heard of him.
