On March 22, the Union community received the tragic news that a beloved Dining Services staff member, Vaughn Bell, passed away at the young age of 32. While he may be gone, his memory lives on throughout the entire campus community.
Bell came to Union in 2006 and quickly made great impressions on everyone he met. Dee-Ann Fusco, a co-worker, shared, “we loved Vaughn and his positive attitude every day. He was always there for the students. The students were his first priority and it gave him genuine joy to help them.”
Darlene VanBuren, expressed similar words on the joy Bell brought to all around him. “I’ve known Vaughn since he was a little boy. He always had a smile on his face and we couldn’t help but smile with him.” As a student, it seemed with every meal came a shared laugh with Bell.
Janice Coppola, who spent a lot of time with Bell, said, “he wanted to make the students feel at home and made it his mission to get them anything they wanted, as fast as he could. We all knew to just get out of his way when he had a student’s request to fulfill! Even now, when we need a little extra help, Vaughn’s name is the first to come to mind.”
Coppola spoke for the entire campus when she said, “we loved him.”
