The Dutchwomen are looking to three-peat in the Liberty League Tournament this weekend.

The Union Softball team finished up their regular season schedule on Sunday, being swept by SUNY Plattsburgh.  While the final games were not the Dutchwomen’s shining moments, there is still plenty to celebrate this season.

The Dutchwomen finished the season with an overall record of 20-16.  They are headed to the Liberty League Championship Tournament this weekend to face the powerful offense of Rochester.

The Dutchwomen will be saying goodbye to three seniors: Nina Cervini, Erika Hillenbrand and Lauren Hoffman.  All three are impressive in their own respect.

Cervini and Hoffman are battling for top spots among Union Softball’s all-time hits leaders. Hillenbrand, who chose to forgo softball her junior year, came back with a vengeance batting .307 with three homeruns and 17 RBIs.  They will surely be missed, but they are not done just yet.

Freshman Allyson Staats also had a very impressive first season as a Dutchwoman.  She was named Liberty League Performer of the Week last week, and for good reason.  She is batting .396 with 31 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .689. The coaches are expecting great things out of her in the coming years.

The team has worked very hard this year to earn their spot in the playoffs. When they have everything going, the Dutchwomen are nearly unstoppable.

The defense is solid behind an excellent pitching staff of Staats, Amanda Blake ‘14, Sarah Logan ‘13, and Alyssa Wolejko ‘14.  With the support of Union behind them, we wish the Dutchwomen the best of luck in the tournament.
