After tough losses to rivals RPI, Union has two double headers coming up this weekend.

After starting the season 14-8, Union’s Softball team headed to RPI this weekend for a double-header against their Liberty League rivals. Prior to these games, the Dutchwomen played four Liberty League games, winning three of them.

RPI started the scoring in the first game when they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. By the bottom of the fourth inning the Engineers jumped to a four run lead. The Dutchwomen began to get back in the game by cutting RPI’s lead to two in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Samantha Chevalier ‘13 brought the two runs in by knocking a double to score runners that were on second and third.

Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Dutchwomen to pull the comeback as RPI took the first game 4-2. The second game began close as both teams were knotted up at one until the fifth inning. The bottom of the fifth, however, was a different story. RPI tacked on five runs, giving them a 6-1 advantage. Despite getting seven hits on the game, Union couldn’t produce anymore runs to spark a comeback.

The Engineers were able to add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to give them an 8-1 win.

Chevalier led the Dutchmen with two hits while Alyssa Wolejko ‘14 was responsible for the only run batted in. Wolejko was also credited with the loss as she pitched five innings of relief, allowing seven runs and striking out three.

The losses to RPI on the weekend drop the Softball team’s record to 14-10 and 3-3 against Liberty League opponents. The Dutchwomen will look to put those losses behind them during their two double headers this weekend at Alexander Field.

They will face RIT at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the University of Rochester at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
