Passion Pit impresses the crowd of Union students and community members in the Field House during the Campus Consciousness Tour concert on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

On Wednesday, Oct. 27, Passion Pit put on a well-received concert in the Field House. The concert lasted until midnight, with the band starting at 10 p.m. Two opening artists began playing at 8 p.m. The concert was part of the Campus Consciousness Tour, which has included other artists including Drake and Ben Harper. On the tour, Passion Pit will visit many colleges to promote sustainable initiatives. They feel very connected to the environment, and when approached about the idea of the tour, they were immediately drawn to it.

Band member Jeff Aprezze spoke on behalf of the band last week, explaining that they like when students “get crazy.” He got his wish. From the first song, students from Union and neighboring colleges were highly enthusiastic. Hips were bumping, fists were pounding, and loud, enthusiastic screams were a constant factor in the passionate equation.

The crowd was so enthused that they quite literally jumped in. Many students swam through the audience backstroke style. The crowd got so rambunctious that Passion Pit was forced to pause the show and explain the safety precautions of crowd surfing.

Passion Pit ultimately impressed students. “I didn’t know about Passion Pit so I had a lot of fun listening to their intense music,” Justin Bogardus ‘14 said. Other students reacted similarly. “I’m really glad Passion Pit came to Union and I’m grateful that we have such a great concert club that brings great bands here!” Clara Boesch ‘14 said.

Several students were already fans of Passion Pit. “Passion Pit has a really unique style,” Alyssa Wolejko ‘14 said. “It could be hard to find music that suits everyone’s taste so I’m glad that they brought them and they were well received by everybody.”

The question remains: did Union impress Passion Pit? Band members, who could definitely be mistaken for the “artsy” students, explored our campus, and loved the winding pathways.  They ultimately felt that this concert was extremely successful, and they were very excited and happy to perform here.
