On June 11 at 9:36 a.m., Darlene Verruto, a 57-year-old Saratoga woman, kicked down the door of the Ainlays’ campus residence and entered their home.

According to a report from the Schenectady Police Department, Verruto chased President Ainlay and another family member upstairs. The Times Union confirmed that this family member was President Ainlay’s wife, Judith. President Ainlay and his wife avoided the woman by locking themselves into a room.

President Ainlay and his wife were not injured during the incident; however, Verruto fought with the security guards who attempted to arrest her and injured one of them before she was eventually taken into custody.

According to the report, Verutto was charged with burglary in the first degree, assault in the second degree, criminal mischief in the second degree and resisting arrest. She is being held in the Schenectady Police Department pending an arraignment.

The Schenectady Police Department is currently investigating the reason behind Verutto’s break-in.

The Concordiensis will provide further updates when they become known.
