Sam Bertschmann ‘14 joins the ranks of the Concordiensis editorial staff as a co-editor of the Arts section.

Recently granted a full spread for each week, the Concordiensis’s Arts section is making several significant changes for the 2011-2012 school year.

Having risen from the ranks of contributing to staff writer last year, I will now be joining veteran editor, Erica Fugger ’12, as co-editor of this section.

In terms of arts and entertainment experience, in addition to my responsibilities with the newspaper, I serve as Concert Committee Vice President, Sorum House Council Communications Chair, and WRUC Treasurer. I also will continue to host a weekly show at the radio station: “Radio Cure” (day and time for this term to be determined shortly).

In terms of creating a new image for the new term, we have a number of exciting plans for Arts and feel confident that this year will be its best yet. Given the breadth of performances, exhibitions, and numerous displays of local art and culture, we envision the section focusing primarily on happenings at Union and within the surrounding community.

Among the coverage of campus activities will be a weekly column devoted to student media on campus. But we won’t give away the details just yet. Check back in over the course of the term for more information!

Likewise, as a portion of Arts is always devoted to contemporary pop culture, we encourage submissions relating to music, movies, television, books, and similar fields on subjects found outside of our college community.

Accordingly, we’re still looking for new writers. Anyone interested in contributing to Arts should email Erica and myself at: arts@concordy.com.

I have loved writing for the Concordiensis and am eager to work with all of the contributors to the Arts section this year!

    Sam,

How wonderful! Congratulations to you (and to the paper for making such a wise selection)! We look forward to reading your articles.

Perhaps you’ll be writing some London arts articles for later publication during your time in England. We picked up two maps of London for you last night when we flew through Heathrow.

    Much love,

    Grandpa and Grandma
