The Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir performs at Memorial Chapel.
This past Saturday, Union’s Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir had the opportunity to showcase their hard work and talent at a concert in Memorial Chapel.
The event was well-attended by Union faculty, staff, friends and family, as well as other members of the Schenectady community.
The program consisted of six soulful and uplifting selections sung by the group that featured powerful soloists Ackeem Hill ‘13, Elite Williams ‘12, Camille Michele ‘14, Sulay Lora ‘12, and Gina Riggins ‘13 and Sean Martin ‘15.
The event was MC-ed by the energetic Joel Lomnick, a guest from the First Israel AME Church in Albany, NY. In between sets of songs sung by the choir, he kept up the energy of the crowd by inviting them all to sing various well-known Christian spirituals, including “Lord we Lift Your Name on High” and “Just Wanna Praise You.”
It was obvious to the audience that the choir was having an incredible time. “I could really tell everyone was really putting their heart and soul into the music,” said Leah Doucette ‘14, a student attendee.
Throughout most of the concert, the audience felt compelled to stand and clap to the music. The event resembled a church service more than a concert, as the energy of the choir members demanded the attention and emotional involvement of everyone in the chapel.
