This past Friday night, the biggest duo in the EDM scene, as well as in pop music culture right now, the Chainsmokers, performed at the Times Union Center in Albany. The duo has taken the music scene by storm over the past few years and showed the capital region, including many guests from Union that they are certainly a powerful force in entertainment. The visit from the duo was the 6th city on a part of their “Memories: Do Not Open” tour that will take them through 40 cities across the United States. The 2017 tour from the duo will encompass the extreme success that they’ve experienced in recent times, highlighted by three Grammy nominations received for Best New Artist, Best Pop Duo Performance, and Best Dance Recording. The group has had unprecedented success for an EDM duo including being just the third act to have three songs in the Hot 100 in the same week, just the third group to do so since The Beatles and Bee Gees. In addition to this feat, the group won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording for their song ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, one of the three nominations previously mentioned. The arrival of the Chainsmokers to the region marked what was debatably the most popular act to grace the Albany-Schenectady area in years, and was certainly a fan favorite amongst the many Union students who were in attendance. The 105 minute performance by the duo was highlighted by the great atmosphere surrounding the event, The visual aesthetics that the group displayed was top of the line, and is a part of the act that the group is well known for. Outside of that, the group showcased its recent hit songs that energized the crowd throughout the show. After performing at some of the top venues, concerts and music festivals in the world, including Coachella, Tomorrowland, Ultra and more, the fact that the group came to the capital region brings great promise to many that there is more to come.
