The third annual ‘A Day 4 U’ took place on Wednesday, April 6, on the first floor of Reamer Campus Center.
A Day 4 U is an annual twenty-four hour fundraiser conducted by the college and donations primarily come from students, parents, alumni, and other members of the Union community. A Day 4 U is unique from other fundraisers because the campaign focuses on the number of participants rather than the total amount of donations, but they still play a critical role.
For the past two years, the college set a specific participation goal and this year the campaign sought 1,795 donors. The college neatly surpassed their goal.
A Day 4 U attracted 2,218 participants from 44 of the 50 states, as well as donors from Europe.
Reamer was not the only place where A Day 4 U outreach took place. Outreach stands were also located in Alumni Gymnasium, Peter Irving Wold Center, and inside Rathskeller Cafe.
Sue Ferris ’81, Director of Annual Giving at Union, released that the participation rate increased by 38 percent from last year.
Brian DeMichele ’03, Assistant Director of the Annual Fund at Union, oversaw the donation table in Reamer. On Wednesday, DeMichele called out to students in Reamer to participate in the event and proved successful.
“The goal generally is to induce engagement, not only with students but alumni as well,” said DeMichele as he described the purpose of the event.
Since the intended participation rate was reached, the Union College Board of Trustees will release $406,000 to Union. The total amount A Day 4 U raised is still being determined. Last year, A Day 4 U raised a little over $1.1 million.
