Student inForum’d: Weekly Student Forum update



  • There will be a special election for the VP of Administration position on Student Forum. Campaigning will take place next week with an election slated for Friday (2/19). The VP of Administration sits on the executive board and chairs the Committee on Committees, which approves and oversees all clubs, organizations and committees on campus.


  • VP of Administration Stephanie DiGiorgio ’17 and Student Forum President Ilan Levine ’16 started a conversation about imposing GPA and/or conduct point requirements for student leaders. The requirements would be the same as those imposed for participation in study abroad trips, Greek life or sports teams. Student Forum opinions were split, but there was more widespread support for adopting requirements for members of Student Forum only.


  • Student Forum is working with Dining Services Director Jeff Kurto to bring Chet’s back! Chet’s is the on-campus bar that opens one night a week in Rathskeller. We are looking for interested students to work on this project. If you are over 21 and interested, email one of your class officers.


  • Anime and Manga Club went to the Finance Committee requesting an additional $1,150 in funding for a trip to Anime Boston. With the extra money, they would be able to take double the number of students. Michael Lippman ’18 made the successful motion to approve their request for funding.


  • A representative from CDTA will be meeting with Student Forum next week to discuss a pilot program for student bus passes. Forum has been examining working with CDTA to give students with Union IDs free fare.


  • New York Times best-selling author Harlan Cohen approached Student Forum President Ilan Levine ’16 about speaking at Union. Student Forum is looking into hosting a talk on relationships and a separate leadership workshop with him in conjunction with Speaker’s Forum.
